Alcan to Acquire Baltek Corp

Alcan have entered into an agreement to acquire Baltek Corp for US$35 million.

The proposal has been approved by the Baltek Board and Major shareholders. Alcan expects to close the deal some time in the second quarter of 2003.

Baltek is a leading supplier of balsa-based structural core materials. Their products will compliment Alcan’s structural foam range offered through Alcan Composites.

Structural core materials are used in composite sandwich construction to produce components with high strength to weight ratios. Such materials are used in marine, mass transportation, wind power generation and aerospace markets.
