At Morgan Advanced Materials we are contributing to a more sustainable world and striving to make a positive difference. We take our purpose and commitments seriously, with plans in place to deliver a step-change in our environmental performance.
In addition, we are investing in new materials and process technologies to improve the performance of our products, to enable us to deliver greater environmental and safety benefits to our customers.
Our 2021 full year sustainability and responsibility report highlights the progress we’re making in driving the environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda throughout Morgan.
Our CEO Pete Raby said “The COVID-19 era has brought the need for a sustainable future into focus. As a purpose-led organisation, we strive to leave a lasting, positive impact on the world”.
The report details the steps we’ve taken in 2021, in pursuit of achieving our 2030 goals:
- Absolute CO2 emissions reduced by 17% compared with the previous year.
- Our water usage in 2021 is 26% below 2015 annual levels.
- 2021 saw waste generation improvements made at several sites, through an increased focus on waste segregation, and by improving waste by category.
- To support our goal that 40% of our leadership population will be female by 2030, we introduced our first employee resource group in 2021, Women@Morgan, which focuses on gender diversity.
Taking our commitments further
As part of our environmental focus, we have made a commitment to the Science Based Initiative (SBTi). We have defined our targets to align with the SBTi to reduce our climate impact. The SBTi encourages companies to demonstrate climate leadership through commitments to greenhouse gas reductions to science-based targets.
We have adopted the Absolute Emissions Contraction Method, which will help us track our commitment to reduce our greenhouse emissions by 50%, by 2030. This method helps companies set emissions reduction targets that are aligned with the global, annual emissions reduction rate that is required to meet 1.5˚C.
External Validation
As a result of our efforts to date we have been awarded an ‘AAA’ rating for our sustainability achievements by MSCI. An MSCI ESG rating is designed to measure a company’s resilience to long – term, industry material ESG risks.

We have also received a ‘B’ rating by the Climate Disclosure Project (CDP) for climate change and water security. This rating reflects our management of these issues and demonstrates that we are taking coordinated action on climate issues.
Pete Raby, CEO, commented: “We understand that engaging and inspiring our people to create local initiatives will better enable us to reach our goals. This year our people have found ways to reduce their environmental impact, support their local communities, and support the wellbeing of their colleagues. We are proud of the contribution Morgan is making and the contribution of our people to creating a more sustainable world.”
