Instron, a leading provider of both structural and materials testing equipment designed to evaluate mechanical properties of materials and components, is pleased to announce a continuance of their partnership with the McLaren Technology Centre. As an official supplier of testing equipment to the McLaren Technology Centre for both the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren road car project, Instron first collaborated with McLaren in the 1980s.
As one of the most successful teams in the history of Formula One, McLaren relies on Instron for state of the art testing equipment for materials, component and full vehicle testing. Used for the continued development of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One cars and McLaren road cars including end-of line tests for the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, the Instron testing machines and systems determine material and component characteristics, as well as the durability of the full vehicle, including the suspension and steering system, in end-use conditions.
Instron’s eight-post test rig is where the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 car is tested. During the course of the year, up to three racecars can alternate on it: last season’s car, the current season’s car and finally, next season’s car, which is tested to measure possible performance enhancements.
