American Elements Develop Novel Tool for Producing Precious Metal Foils

Los Angeles-based American Elements announced today the development of a new novel manufacturing technology for production of precious metal foils including rhodium (Rh), palladium (Pd), silver (Ag), osmium (Os), iridium (Ir), platinum (Pt) and gold (Au). The new technology allows for thickness tolerances of no more than +/- 0.0005" for all noble metal group foils. The new tighter tolerance applies to foils with thicknesses ranging from 0.0004" up to 0.020". This represents the narrowest tolerance available for commercial scale foil production.

The tighter standard for foil tolerances will particularly assist users of platinum group metals in aerospace, space and satellite telecommunication applications where dimensional requirements are often mission critical parameters.
