$1million Alcan Sustainability Prize to be Presented in Montral

Alcan today announced that it will celebrate the 2007 US$1 million Alcan Prize for Sustainability at the 14th edition of the International Forum of the Americas/Conference of Montréal in 2008.

"Alcan is proud to have built a partnership with the Conference of Montréal that will ensure the 2007 winner of the Alcan Prize for Sustainability is awarded in this city, our hometown," stated Dick Evans, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alcan Inc. "As a unique event that brings together influential world leaders from every sector to discuss social, economic and environmental challenges, the Conference of Montréal is the ideal venue for showcasing a prize that focuses on recognizing those whose work addresses these issues," he added.

The Alcan Prize for Sustainability was created to recognize the not-for-profit sector for its contributions to global sustainability both in the community and more widely by influencing policy. The Alcan Prize is open to all not-for-profit, non-governmental, and civil society organizations based anywhere in the world that are working to advance the goals of economic, environmental, and social sustainability. To ensure the objectivity of the Alcan Prize for Sustainability, Alcan partners with the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF), which manages the Prize and facilitates the application process. IBLF promotes international leadership in responsible business to benefit business and society. To ensure a rigorous and transparent approach, Alcan does not have a voice in the Assessment or Adjudication Panel convened by IBLF.

The International Economic Forum of the Americas/Conference of Montréal has as its principal mission the promotion of wide-ranging and completely open discussion of the major international economic issues. It also aims at facilitating the creation of contacts between representatives of businesses, governments and international agencies as well as members of the academic world and civic society, thereby encouraging international exchanges.
