Ropak and Plastican Settle Patent Infringement Lawsuit

Ropak Corporation announced March 30, 2007 that it has reached a settlement of the patent infringement lawsuit filed in August, 2004 against Plastican Inc. In the lawsuit, Ropak alleged that Plastican infringed several claims of United States Patent No. 4,735,337 for the patented cover, EZ Cover(R), and sought more than $6 million in damages. The parties have now reached an agreement to settle the lawsuit for monetary payments in amounts which shall remain confidential.

"We are pleased that the dispute with Plastican is now resolved," said Greg Toft, Ropak's President. "Ropak holds numerous patents in the area of plastic containers and lids and continues to develop new packaging designs that function as both a shipping container and a reusable container. We will continue to enforce our intellectual property rights and to lead the industry in proprietary plastic containers and lids."
