The Direct Route to Kinematic Viscosity

Kinematic viscometers have historically been of the gravity-driven glass capillary type, as specified in ASTM D446, and directly measure kinematic viscosity following the ASTM D445 Test Method.

Another method for determining kinematic viscosity, introduced as ASTM Test Method D7042 (Stabinger Viscometer), is now being used. Although the vendor of this newer technique claims it is equivalent to the glass capillary method, it is realistically quite different.
