Introduction

Nickel alloy 263 is an age-hardenable nickel-cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy that combines high strength with good fabrication characteristics under annealed conditions. It also exhibits excellent intermediate temperature ductility and oxidation resistance that is comparable to that of other gamma-prime-strengthened superalloys.

The following sections will provide an overview of nickel alloy 263.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment

Nickel alloy 263 has excellent forming and welding characteristics. It can be hot-worked at temperatures ranging from 955 to 1150°C (1750 to 2100°F). Due to its good ductility, the alloy can also be readily cold-worked. The hot- or cold-worked parts are then annealed at 1150°C (2100°F) followed by rapid air cooling.

Welding of nickel alloy 263 can be carried out using conventional techniques such as resistance welding, electron beam welding, gas metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding methods. Following welding, the alloy is heat treated to achieve excellent joint and fabrication properties.

Applications

The following are the list of applications of nickel alloy 263:

  • Gas turbine rings
  • Combusters
  • Liners
  • Casings
