At Powtech 2008 (30 Sep-2 Oct 2008, Nürnberg, Germany), Malvern Instruments will demonstrate the latest applications for the Morphologi G3 high sensitivity particle characterization system.
Launched last year, the Morphologi G3 delivers information about both particle size and shape, and is finding application in the pharmaceutical industry and across a wide variety of industrial sectors. Now, the addition of a statistical data analysis tool allows quicker and easier analysis of batch-to-batch variation in a powder feed or product. Powtech also sees the introduction of a new feature for the measurement of particles on filter paper. This enables foreign particle detection in, for example, pharmaceuticals, hydraulic fluids and for component cleanliness in the automotive and other industries.
Malvern is also announcing its participation in the newly-formed OPC Analyzer Device Integration Working Group. The group has been constituted to develop a common method for data exchange and an analyzer data model for process and laboratory analyzers. It comprises interested members of the OPC Foundation, an organisation dedicated to ensuring interoperability in automation via open standards. Both instrument manufacturers and industrial users of analytical instrumentation are represented.
The Working Group is adopting OPC-UA (Unified Architecture) as the basis for the Analyzer Device Integration (ADI) standard and aims to define a compatible data model. OPC-UA has the advantages of being a platform-neutral standard, designed to support complex data types and object models; it can achieve high speed data transfers and has broad industry support beyond simply process automation.
