Air Products Signs Agreement to Supply Industrial Gases to Steel Producer

Air Products & Chemicals Inc. said Monday it signed a long-term contract to supply industrial gasses to an expansion project of Ann Joo Steel Berhad.

Air Products said it will build, own and operate a unit providing gaseous oxygen, nitrogen and argon to an Ann Joo steel mill at Prai in northwest Malaysia. The unit will begin operating in mid-2009, the Pennsylvania company said.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Air Products officials said their company has been supplying Ann Joo Steel for more than 10 years, and that the contract for the expansion product will help them in the growing Malaysian steel market.

Ann Joo Steel makes long steel products such as billets, bars and wire rods. It is a subsidiary of Malaysian industrial and property conglomerate Ann Joo Resources Berhad.
