Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has been awarded an order for the installation of another hot coil handling system at the hot-rolling mill of the Hungarian steel producer ISD Dunaferr Zrt., Dunaújváros.
This handling system will be able to transport coils with a weight of up to 35 tons. The short coil-to-coil time will insure a quick and efficient transfer of the coils to the storage area or to further processing areas. The order value is in the two-digit million euro range. The new Hot Coil Handling System 2 is planned to go into operation in September 2009. Siemens VAI recently erected the Hot Coil Handling System 1, a reversing cold-rolling mill and a pickling line at ISD Dunaferr. These plants have been in operation since June 2008.
ISD Dunaferr produces a wide range of hot and cold-rolled products as well as treated strips and plates of various widths for applications in the domestic appliance and automotive industry as well as for the production of demanding deep-drawn components. The majority owner is the Group “Industrial Union of Donbass”, who is currently upgrading the location Dunaújváros to become a center for flat steel production.
The new Coil Handling System 2 will replace an existing line and is designed to serve as a quick and efficient conveyor from the downcoiler to the coil storage and to the new picking line. As a result, the plant will allow for the planned capacity increase of the hot rolling mill from 1.8 to 3 million tons per year.
Siemens VAI is supplying the equipment and spare parts for the hot coil handling system, is heading the technical project management and is responsible for the erection of the line. Also included in the scope of contract are the commissioning supervision and the training of the operating personnel.
