SMS Demag Acquire Automation Division of BEA Group

SMS Demag AG, with an order intake of around 4 billion EUR in 2008 and approx. 6500 employees, and one of the world’s leading machinery and equipment building firms in the field of metallurgical plant and rolling mill technology, is acquiring the Electrical and Automation division of BEA Group with head office in Düsseldorf. SMS Demag is an SMS group company.

Following the acquisition by SMS Demag, which is scheduled to be completed at the end of February 2009, the division will continue to be operated as an independent company under the name of LUX Elektrotechnik und Automation GmbH & Co KG, with head office in Düsseldorf. The purchase of the company is subject to examination and approval under antitrust law. It has been agreed to observe secrecy as regards the purchase price.

In the 2007 fiscal year, the BEA Group Electrical and Automation division, with 92 employees, generated sales amounting to around 22 million EUR. The main areas of activity lie in the field of industrial automation for the metallurgical and steel industry, for the automotive industry and for logistics applications. The range of products and services comprises the complete planning and implementation of electrical and automation projects and is also characterized by special know-how in the area of modernization projects in the metallurgical and steel industry.

The acquisition is in keeping with the consistent expansion of the range of services offered by SMS Demag in the field of electrical and automation systems for new plant and modernization projects. In this respect, the company has by now established itself on the market as an integrated systems supplier, offering all-inclusive mechatronic solutions for the steel industry.
