For rapid, convenient determination of melt index values, Zwick's Xflow series of plastometers covers the entire application spectrum: from cost-effective manual operation, to instruments featuring operator-friendly automatic test sequences.
Instead of the usual weights, the new Aflow extrusion plastometer features cutting-edge force control, which automatically controls the stepless adjustment of test loads up to 50 kg. This makes melt index determination faster and more reliable. The optimized test sequence eliminates operator influence, further boosting the reproducibility of test results. If, for example, polymers with unknown MFR are being tested, APC automatically sets the relevant test parameters.
With traditional plastometers, weight application frequently involves impact loads; this is greatly reduced thanks to Aflow's electro-mechanical drive, so that control of multi-stage tests is also largely shock-free. At the end of the test Aflow can be cleaned effortlessly at the touch of a button.
While Aflow is designed for 24-hour, high-throughput use, Mflow is intended for the testing throughput of a typical quality assurance or goods inwards check area. It offers faster, more convenient determination of MFR and MVR. Previously the different weights required by each polymer being tested had to be positioned manually by the operator, a laborious and potentially hazardous procedure. Zwick's new modular system solves this problem with an auxiliary unit which provides program-controlled weight positioning and removal. Manual weight selection is possible by simply withdrawing the selector and re-inserting it in the desired position. The instrument contains test weights in accordance with current standards up to 21.6 kg and can be controlled via integrated electronics or a PC as required.
The Xflow range is completed by the cost-effective Cflow, an instrument designed for manual testing and suitable for lower throughput applications.
