The Society for Protective Coatings Announces 2011 Technical Conference

As the coatings industry moves further into the 21st century, more contractors and facility owners are demanding sustainable solutions and an understanding of how to comply with green regulations.

SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings is offering the first trade show and technical conference to directly address environmentally-responsible protective coatings solutions: SSPC 2011 featuring GreenCOAT. This event will occur from January 31 to February 3, 2011, at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.

SSPC's goal for GreenCOAT is to provide guidance for members and those in the protective coatings industry regarding eco-conscious coating technology and how to comply with green regulations. This will encompass a special exhibit hall, technical program and networking events highlighting environmentally-responsible protective coatings solutions currently available in the industry.

In addition, exhibitors promoting environmentally-sensible products and services will connect with a growing new marketplace of buyers whose mandate it is to purchase from eco-aware businesses and build with eco-aware products.

"The move toward more environmentally-responsible industrial coatings solutions is running ahead at full steam," said President of SSPC Russ Brown. "The challenge facing our industry is that our products and methods don't always lend themselves well to 'greening'. From a performance and cost standpoint, a 'green' solution that fails or performs inadequately may end up being more harmful to the environment than a traditional solution with proven reliability."

SSPC 2011 will feature green technologies for the protective, marine and industrial coatings industries.  Topics of interest will include:

  • Coating application methods
  • Coating failures
  • Coatings for emerging green industries like wind power and nuclear coatings
  • Coating inspection equipment and types and characteristics
  • Concrete surfacing
  • Corrosion control
  • Environmental health and safety and green regulations
  • Estimating for commercial, marine and DOT
  • Green application techniques
  • Flooring
  • Green, wind tower, and marine and military coatings
  • Surface preparation
  • The durability of all generic types of industrial liquid coatings
  • Advances in containment designs and function
  • Best application practices for high solids materials
  • Powder coatings
  • Cleaner abrasives
