Spectrum Plastics Announces Acquisition of Advanced Micro Molding Assets

Spectrum Plastics Group today announced that it has acquired advanced micro molding assets, expanding the company’s full range of injection molding and rapid prototyping services to production of true micro-molded components and devices from highly engineered materials.

Spectrum Plastics Group deploys several injection molding techniques, rapid prototyping and rapid tooling capabilities to help customers quickly turn engineering concepts into high quality products.

“Spectrum Plastics already is respected for its work in small-parts molding. Adding specialized micro molding capabilities is a perfect fit for our current customers and new markets as we pursue a very focused and aggressive growth strategy,” said Randy Ahlm, president and CEO of Spectrum Plastics Group. “By acquiring these assets, Spectrum Plastics is extending its ability to deliver sophisticated, competitively priced micro-molded products and parts to the exacting quality and performance standards of medical, aerospace, defense and precision industrial markets.

Ahlm noted that the medical, aerospace, defense and precision industrial manufacturers we serve continue to use precision engineered injection molded thermoplastics and Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) materials to fuel their own innovation.

“The trend is toward using injection molded plastics in new applications as the material properties continue to improve, including additional metal-to-plastics conversions to the micro-scale parts used in implantable medical devices, and highly engineered aerospace, defense and industrial components,” Ahlm said. “Increasing our ability to efficiently manufacture micro size products at Spectrum Plastics reflects our commitment to serve customers across the full product development lifecycle, no matter what size or materials are required.”

The acquisition is the latest in a series of moves over the past three years that has established Spectrum Plastics Group as a leading product development and contract manufacturer for customers requiring high-quality injection molded products – from thermoplastics to Liquid Silicone Rubber – at four locations throughout the United States.
