INEOS Styrenics, a company specializing in styrenic polymers and styrene monomers, has announced the launch of a new series of polystyrene products in North America.
The new line comprises NextLife’s two products, PCR5625 and PCR3125, which contain 25% of post consumer recycled polystyrene. NextLife produces sustainable plastic resins. The polystyrene products have received FDA approval for food contact. They are engineered for injection molding uses that demand reliable resin properties.
The polystyrene resin can be processed in the same manner as 100% virgin polystyrene. It is suitable for producing injection molded opaque articles, including appliance parts, office accessories, housewares and cutlery.
The Vice President at NextLife, Robert Dishman stated that the company’s potential to offer sustainable polystyrene resins that have been approved by FDA assist in developing a closed loop recycling solution. The partnership between INEOS Styrenics and NextLife benefits not only the two companies but also the industry. The best solution is to reuse via closed loop recycling, he concluded.
According to Ed Barnes, who serves as Vice President of North American Polymers at INEOS Styrenics, with the launch of the new line, the company has proved that polystyrenes can be recycled. It is vital for the company to convey its customers that polystyrene is a sustainable resin option, he added.
