Axion International to Install Recycled Plastic Railroad Ties in South America

Axion International has received a purchase order for its patented Recycled Structural Composite (RSC) railroad ties from a railway line operator in South America. This is the first order for the company in South America.

The railway line is anticipated to decrease the tension on landfills with the use of Axion’s 100% recycled plastic material. President and CEO of Axion, Steve Silverman noted that the company seeks to address the South American transit line’s future requirements. He added that the order signifies Axion’s expansion into diverse new markets such as South America and thus reinforces the company’s global sales network.

Axion will supply different sizes of railroad ties to the railway line operator with a length ranging from 9’ to 20’. The composite ties will be installed in the South American city’s chief transit line and they will be used to replace the existing wooden ties. The longer railroad ties will be used in locations where many tracks meet or split apart.

The RSC material from Axion is free from toxic materials and is resistant to insect infestation. Axion’s RSC material is inert, recyclable and will not leach toxic chemicals. It is lighter, less expensive and decreases energy costs. Axion’s RSC products are 100% recyclable at the end of their operational life.
