Cabot, a global performance materials and specialty chemical company, announced that it has planned to invest $10 million for expanding its inkjet manufacturing plant in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
The facility expansion commenced in early 2011 and will end by2012. The expansion work will boost the production capacity of Cabot’s CAB-O-JET line of polymer products and color pigment dispersions by 100%.
The investment will support the faster growth in inkjet for the official and commercial printing sectors. Inkjet printing has turned into a preeminent, cost-effective solution due to the increased demand for short runs, personalized content and color printing. The Haverhill facility extension will help to reinforce the company’s leadership status in pigment dispersions. The dispersions are used to offer magenta, yellow, cyan and black colors in the existing inkjet printers.
Cabot’s CAB-O-JET line of color pigment dispersions is produced using the surface treatment process and a proprietary stabilization technique. This process provides flexibility, durability and print performance for developers of inks used in inkjet printers.
In 2007, the CAB-O-JET 400 line of inkjet colorants was launched and this signifies the introduction of patented calcium-binding technology of the company. The technology produces clear and brighter prints at high speed on standard papers.
Cabot’s VP of New Business Segment, Fred von Gottberg stated that the company is advancing its inkjet business by constantly offering enhanced technology solutions based on varying customers requirements. The current production capacity expansion will support the growth of the company’s clients in the existing and emerging applications.
