UNIPOL Polypropylene Process Technology from Dow Chemical has been chosen by Qinghai Salt Lake Industry for its new polypropylene unit. The new 160 KTA unit will deliver polypropylene (PP) to produce impact copolymers, random copolymers and homopolymers.
This initiative is a part of the integrated magnesium metal project of Qinghai Salt Lake Industry. PP is a flexible plastic material utilized in fibers, non-wovens, automotive parts, durable goods, packaging and other consumer products.
Qinghai Salt Lake Industry is a China-based salt lake resources development organization offering various products, including potassium metal, potassium nitrate and potassium carbonate. The company will use coal as feedstock to manufacture propylene and ethylene, which are later used as feedstock for the new PP unit.
Qinghai Salt Lake Industry is a new and eighth licensee of the UNIPOL PP Process Technology in China. The new license signifies the interest in the Chinese market to use advanced polypropylene process technology to produce a wide range of resins for several applications. The UNIPOL PP Process Technology has been chosen for its simple design, low investment cost and ability to produce a broad product range.
The UNIPOL technology installation will begin in 2012 and operation is anticipated to commence in 2013.
The UNIPOL PP Technology is now used in 46 global operating lines. Its simple design is associated with energy efficiency and product quality and is a gas-phase process to produce the widest line of polypropylene resins. The technology comprises SHAC Catalyst Systems, CONSISTA Catalyst Systems and fluidized-bed reactors.
