Avery Dennison Unveils New Machine Direction Oriented Film

Avery Dennison, a global provider of pressure-sensitive technology and material, has expanded its line of machine direction oriented (MDO) film products with the addition of a new film laminate.

Global MDO is introduced to link the gap between the PE85 film and the high performance MDO film line and it is ideal for the home and personal care (HPC) market. The film enhances productivity and offers sustainability improvements, including double the quantity of labels per roll, considerable decrease in web damages and on-shelf label clarity.

Avery Dennison's new high-performance Global MDO film

Earlier, manufacturers needed to compromise on certain factors. They can get a thinner label material, however it would lack rigidity and if conformability is required, they need to compromise on clarity. But, with the use of the patented Global MDO consumers need not compromise on any factor. The company has spent more than 15 years to refine its MDO films for pressure-sensitive label market applications. Global MDO, when used with PET23 liner, delivers a unique solution to the HPC market.

Global MDO water-resistant adhesive offers a base for the attractive clear film labels and delivers a unique on-shelf appeal. The material is suitable for brand owners and label printers. It boosts productivity with nearly 50% less ooze and high wet-out performance. The whole construction of the Global MDO is 50% thinner than the existing standard PE85 film on glassine liner. Hence, the film doubles the labels per roll while increasing operational efficiency all through the supply chain.

Independent Life Cycle Assessment has compared the performance of Global MDO to the current standard products and has proven that Global MDO adhesive generates 40% less solid waste, consumes 37% less energy and decreases greenhouse gas emission by 10%. The innovative laminate is now available in white and clear options without top coatings in Europe and North America. It will be available in Asia and South America by the end of 2011.
