Unique One-Piece, Top-Entry, Vertical Card Edge Connector from AVX

AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of passive components and interconnect solutions, has introduced a unique new one-piece, top-entry, vertical card edge connector for use in a broad range of industrial applications.

Available with two to six positions, this latest addition to AVX’s continuously expanding 00-9159 card edge connector series is the first single-piece, low pin count, top-entry, vertical card edge connector available for the industrial marketplace. Enabling small perpendicular daughter cards – such as module and programming cards – to be easily plugged into the top side of a main board, the new 00-9159 Series connector features an innovative, dual-slotted PCB board opening capable of accommodating 0.8mm or 1.6mm board thicknesses. This unique configuration, combined with high-reliability, gold-plated beryllium copper spring contacts, provides engineers with a versatile, robust, and cost-effective single-piece solution for low pin count perpendicular PCB mating in harsh industrial applications.

“A complement to the single-piece, bottom-entry, vertical card-edge connector that we released last December, the new 00-9159 single-piece, top-entry, vertical card edge connector facilitates easy plug-ability for small daughter cards and, with its unique T-shaped PCB slot capable of accepting both 0.8mm and 1.6mm boards, provides engineers with additional design flexibility,” said Tom Anderson, product manager at AVX.

Featuring a removable pick and place cap to support robotic placement and SMT termination, the new 00-9159 Series connector is rated for 2A per gold-plated BeCu contact, 250VAC, and 10 cycles in temperatures spanning -40°C to +120°C, providing a high-reliability alternative to traditional and more costly two-piece connector solutions in harsh industrial environments.

Lead time for the 00-9159 Series one-piece, top-entry, vertical card edge connectors is currently eight weeks.
