Texas Instruments has announced it has expanded its industry-leading voice-over-cable (VoCable) platform by incorporating Wireless LAN (WLAN) into a single VoCable gateway. Incorporating high-speed data, voice and home networking features, the TNETC731 is the first to support all of CableLab's advanced PacketCable 1.5 requirements. The new gateway design allows cable service providers to also deliver voice quality monitoring, T.38 fax relay, and battery backup framework for an improved user experience and lifeline requirements.
TI's VoCable gateway platform adds the convenience of wireless connectivity to a home network via a cable modem, providing broadband access and WLAN in one easy to install unit. For example, a VoCable + WLAN modem delivers data both wired and wirelessly. Voice is enabled through wired telephones, as well as cordless single- or dual-mode wireless VoIP handsets throughout the home network. TI's low-power, performance-optimized DSP platform allows service providers to offer this rich blend of features and functionality.
Additionally, TI offers a customizable software framework enabling fixed mobile convergence in the home to support dual-mode VoIP phones operating on cellular or local networks, depending on the user's location.
These new features are only a few of the applications which can be supported by TI's DSP and software combination. As consumers request new functions, and as service providers provision new offerings, TI's VoCable gateway can easily receive feature-rich and differentiated software upgrades, extending the life of the product.
The reference design comes complete with hardware and software and is easily software upgradeable to support additional features. It is Wi-Fi® certified, ensuring that customers will be able to quickly deploy a high-performance, standards compliant wireless networking product.
