MTI Instruments, Inc. (MTI Instruments), the wholly-owned subsidiary of Mechanical Technology, Incorporated (MTI) has received ISO 9001:2008 certification, an internationally recognized standard issued to organizations with a quality management system. The certification was authorized by TÜVRheinland®, a premier global provider of independent testing and certification services with 15 locations throughout North America.
In order to become ISO 9001:2008 certified, a company must fulfill requirements outlined by the ISO. Including among ISO requirements are the control of procedures that cover all key processes in the business and to continue monitoring them to ensure they are effective, maintaining adequate records, checking output for defects, with appropriate and corrective action where necessary, regularly reviewing individual processes and the quality system itself for effectiveness, while facilitating continual improvement.
In addition, the company must demonstrate a quality management system with the ability to consistently provide product that meets customer as well as statutory and regulatory requirements and remain committed to enhancing customer satisfaction, continual improvement and the assurance of conformity to requirements. Certification to the standard is voluntary, and organizations must complete a rigorous auditing process by a third-party registrar.
Kevin G. Lynch, CEO of MTI commented that “This certification is another commitment by MTI Instruments in providing the highest standards and services to our customers. It provides the recognition, to our global customers, that we have a documented quality system that they can rely upon, and know that it will help drive continuous improvement. Achieving this benchmark in our development is critical to our implementation of our instruments strategy. This certification also elevates our opportunities to large global companies.”
