General Dynamic Win $5.1m Contract from US Army to Manufacture 25mm Gun Barrels

General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, a business unit of General Dynamics, was awarded a $5.1 million contract from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, Rock Island, Ill., for the production of 25mm gun barrels. The units will serve as replacement barrels for the 25mm M242 chain gun that equips the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, for which General Dynamics also produces reactive armor.

The 25mm barrels will be manufactured at General Dynamics' Saco, Maine, facility, with program management occurring at the company's Vermont-based Burlington Technology Center. Work will be performed by existing employees, with deliveries commencing in September 2006 and continuing through December 2007.

General Dynamics has been a leading supplier of gun barrels to the U.S. Department of Defense for more than 50 years, producing barrels ranging from 7.62mm to 40mm. General Dynamics barrels are currently used on a wide variety of defense products including U.S. fighter aircraft.
