DuPont Work Overtime to Provide Protective Garments for SARS

In response to the recent SARS epidemic in mainland China and Hong Kong, organisations such as the Centre for Disease Control and the World Health Organization have recommended the use of appropriate disposable protective garments and breathing equipment.

Consequently, DuPont have stepped up efforts to supply frontline health workers with Tyvek® protective disposable garments. Already, China has requested one million Tyvek garments for health care workers, which DuPont is working to supply with the help of partners around the world.

Protective garments such as those made of Tyvek provide a barrier to the transmission of infectious materials from infected individuals to healthy persons. Disposable garments also enable to health care workers to contain infections to designated areas within hospitals.

However, it should be noted that such garments only provide part of a total system to address the transmission of SARS.
