General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, a business unit of General Dynamics, has been awarded a $14 million contract from Meggitt Defense Systems, Inc. (Irvine, Calif.), for ammunition magazine system development and demonstration work related to the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems. Under the new contract, General Dynamics will design and develop a reliable lightweight ammunition magazine compatible with existing and future ammunition for the Mounted Combat System, a variant of the FCS manned ground vehicle family.
General Dynamics will produce the magazine's ammunition storage tubes at its Lincoln, Neb., facility, with system integration occurring at its Burlington, Vt., Technology Center.
The Mounted Combat System is one of eight manned vehicles being developed for the Army's Future Combat Systems program. Highly maneuverable, the MCS vehicle can deliver rapid, precision fire on multiple targets and can provide direct support to dismounted infantry in assaults, defeating bunkers and breaching walls.
General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, located in Charlotte, N.C., provides a broad range of system solutions for military applications.
