SGL Carbon to Become Exclusive Carbon Brake Supplier to Race Teams in the DTM Series - News Item

SGL Carbon through its American subsidiary Hitco, will become the sole supplier of carbon-carbon brake discs and brake pads to all teams competing in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) series.

The supply contract will span 3 years. Hitco have a proven track record, currently supplying Formula 1 teams such as McLaren Mercedes, Jordan-Honda and Renault.

Ceramic brake components are becoming increasingly popular. They offer advantages over conventional cast iron brake discs in that they offer shorter stopping distances, better response in a variety of driving conditions, no reduction in braking power, no brake judder, reduced pedal effort, longer life, high corrosion resistance and lower weight. While ceramic-based brake components are appearing on road cars, carbon-carbon brake components are only suitable for racing applications as they must be heated to around 300°C while driving to their full braking power.
