Fabrication and Heat Treatment
Machinability
Grade Ti 10V 2Fe 3Al alloy is hard to machine but can be successfully done using slow speeds, high coolant flow, and high feed rates. Tooling should be performed using tungsten carbide designations C1-C4 or cobalt type high speed tools.
Forming
Grade Ti 10V 2Fe 3Al alloy can be hot or cold formed.
Welding
Weldability of grade Ti 10V 2Fe 3Al alloy is rated as fair.
Annealing
Annealing of this material (sections up to 1/2") can be performed by holding it at 815°C (1500°F) for 30 min.
Aging
Aging of grade Ti 10V 2Fe 3Al alloy can be performed at 482-510°C (900-950°F) for 8 h and then air cooled.
Forging
Forging can be performed and completed at 871-927°C (1600-1700°F).
Hot Working
Hot working enhances the ductility of the material.
Cold Working
Cold working features of this material is same as that of a medium tempered austenitic stainless steel. Post-work annealing is recommended to re-attain useful performance properties.
Applications
Grade Ti 10V 2Fe 3Al alloy is mainly used in near-net shape forging, and in high strength airframe components.
