Introduction

Die cast zinc alloys have a variety of applications, from bat fittings to electronic components. Die castings dominate the total volume of alloys produced by the metal working industry. Zinc offers a number of advantages such as hardness, durability, self-lubrication and strength.

Different kinds of finishes like gold, weathered bronze, steel and leather can be done on zinc die casts. Zinc has a high density; hence fixtures made of zinc die casts are much more durable when compared to their plastic counterparts.

Zinc die casts are of four types, namely, ZP3, ZP5, ZP2 and ZP8. Zinc die casts are manufactured by the hot chamber process in accordance with the European Standard – EN12844. ZP3 and ZP5 are the widely used zinc casts. The ZP die cast series are mainly composed of aluminum and zinc. The alloy number that is used to denote ZP8 alloy is ZP0810.

This datasheet will look into the chemical composition, properties and applications of zinc die casting alloy – ZP8.
