Sensor specialist Micro-Epsilon has recently developed the optoNCDT 1420 laser triangulation sensors. The Smart sensor concept with compact size and inclusive web interface is unique universally. These sensors are said to be appealing because of their excellent price/performance ratio.
The optoNCDT laser sensors based on the triangulation measuring principle perform non-contact displacement, distance, and position measurements. These new triangulation sensors realize high measurement accuracy even with measuring rates of up to 4 kHz.
The connection is made either via a 0.3 meter-length pigtail with M12 connector or via 3 meter-length cable with open ends. These sensors offer an intelligent surface regulation similar to all triangulation sensors from Micro-Epsilon.
Stable results are guaranteed by the Auto Target Compensation (ATC), irrespective of changing brightness or colors of the target. The high-performance optical system projects the small light spot sharply onto the measurement object which also allows detecting even the tiniest components in a reliable manner.
The sensor can be combined into machine or plant control systems using diverse output signals. Installation is streamlined as a separate controller is not necessary. Besides analog voltage and current outputs, a digital RS422 interface gives distance information from the sensor.
An intuitive web interface is used to work all optoNCDT 1420 laser sensors. Fast sensor parameter set up is facilitated by presets and a quality slider for the selection of the measurement task. Moreover, it is possible to store and export eight user-specific sensors settings in the setup management.
Loading these individual sensor settings allows swift parameter set up, for example - for high volume applications. The signal peak selection, a freely adjustable signal averaging, and the video signal display help to enhance the measurement task. Quick commissioning for simple measurement tasks is supported by the multifunction button.
- Measuring rate up to 4 kHz
- Ideal for serial and OEM applications
- Compact design with integrated controller
- Configuration via web interface or Plug & Play
- Trigger input/teach-in zero-setting/mastering
- Analog (U/I) and digital output
- Auto Target Compensation
- Application-specific presets and individual setups
The optoNCDT1420 provides a unique blend of speed, performance, size, and application versatility in the compact triangulation sensor range. The lightweight sensor with an integrated controller is intended for dynamic measurements and can also be combined into limited installation space.
The selectable connector type, i.e. cable or pigtail, along with compact size reduces the sensor installation effort. The optoNCDT 1420, similar to all triangulation sensors from Micro-Epsilon, delivers an intelligent surface regulation.
This is how stable results, irrespective of changing brightness or colors of the target, are guaranteed by the Auto Target Compensation (ATC). The small light spot is sharply projected by the high-performance optical system onto the measurement object, which enables even the tiniest components to be detected in a reliable manner.
Highest Precision in a Minimum of Space
Compact size along with low weight paves way for new fields of application. A broad range of output signals help combine the sensor into machine or plant control systems. Besides analog voltage and current outputs, a digital RS422 interface also offers distance information from the sensor.
The requirements for use in high volume and OEM applications are delivered by the optoNCDT 1420 because of the selectable setting and evaluation possibilities. A high measurement accuracy is realized by the compact triangulation sensor even with measuring rates of up to 4 kHz.

Unique Ease of Use, Individual Results
An intuitive web interface is used to run all optoNCDT 1420 models. Presets for the choice of the measurement task allow quick sensor parameter set up. Precise measurement results are easily attained without any intricate optimization through the use of Standard Changing surfaces and Material with penetration settings.
Moreover, up to eight user-specific sensors settings can be stored and exported in the setup management. This is how stored sensor settings can be easily transferred to other sensors. An extended web interface offering several extra functions is offered by the optoNCDT. The signal peak selection, a freely adjustable signal averaging, and video signal display enable to enhance the measurement task.
The region of interest (ROI) function allows for example - for interfering signals in the background to be filtered out. Thus, the remaining signal peak is optimally modified.
