To help heat treaters maintain a leak-free environment to control the transformation of materials and meet strict product quality requirements, ASM Heat Treating Society (HTS) will sponsor a seminar on Principles of Proper Vacuum Furnace Maintenance.
The day-and-a-half long seminar, March 18-19 at the Doubletree Hotel in Anaheim, Calif., is geared for heat treating professionals, technicians, and engineers involved with vacuum furnace technology.
Seminar organizers Bob Hill and Roger Jones of Solar Atmospheres, Inc., Souderton, Pa., and Dan Herring of The Herring Group, Elmhurst, Ill., have developed a program that covers a wide variety of vacuum furnace maintenance challenges, from replacement of a control thermocouple to leak-checking a chamber. Topics include leak detection, pumping systems, pyrometry, accreditation, instrumentation controls, hot zone designs, cooling systems, specialty gas choices, and preventive maintenance.
A roundtable discussion will describe how to keep these multi-million dollar furnaces working at top efficiency. A tour of GM Enterprise in Corona, Calif., approximately 45 minutes from Anaheim, will also be held as part of the seminar.
