New Polymer Brings High Heels to New Heights with Improved Mechanical Properties

Cold temperatures, steel gratings, miles and miles of sidewalks – high heels made of Terblend® N, BASF’s ABS/PA blend, are now available on the Chinese market and ensure that spike heels that are up to 10 centimeters tall can withstand all of these extreme conditions. This plastic stands out for its excellent impact resistance even at freezing temperatures. “The higher the heel, the greater the demands on the material.

High heels made of Terblend® N for the Chinese market

High heels that are injection-molded using Terblend N are robust to dents and fractures,” explains Alfeda Cho, who works in the sales division at BASF Taiwan. In comparison to high heels made of standard styrene plastics, those made of Terblend N display considerably better mechanical properties. The material allows lower system costs than the engineering plastics that are otherwise used. It exhibits very good chemical resistance, good dimensional stability under heat and it is easy to coat. The blend has an outstanding surface quality, pleasant haptics and it offers good acoustic properties.
