DuPont Opens New Liquid Packaging Manufacturing Facility

A new DuPont Liquid Packaging Systems (DLPS) manufacturing facility recently began operations in Manchester, England. The site produces pre-made bags for bag-in-box applications, serving the growing customer base in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

DLPS -- also known as LB Europe -- previously operated between two facilities. Now, all 120 employees operate under one roof. The consolidation has reduced costs while maximizing the efficiency of the organization, manufacturing, inventory management and use of space.

"The move gives the business an opportunity to look at the entire bag manufacturing process," said Susanne Burgdorf, site manager. "Working with consultants, the facility was designed with a lean manufacturing layout, streamlining the manufacturing methods to maximize value and minimize waste in the process. We streamlined the entire bag making process from the point where the resin arrives at the plant through to the finished product on the dock."

"Wine and beverage liquid packaging systems are our key markets in Europe, but as we intensify our marketing efforts, we anticipate growth in both the food and dairy markets that will contribute to the sustainable growth of the liquid packaging business," said Stewart Graves, global marketing & sales director, DLPS. "The new facility enables us to supply our existing customers effectively while positioning the business to meet the regional market's growing demands."
