Diversified technology company 3M has introduced two new cables with broad applications across the electronics industry. The 3M Round, Jacketed, Flat Cables Series 3758 and 3896 open into flat cable to enable mass termination to a broad line of insulation displacement connectors (IDCs).
The cables are designed to be used across all electronic market segments including OEM manufacturing, cable equipment, computers and peripherals, medical equipment, test and instrumentation, industrial equipment, I/O devices and factory automation. Both cables are designed for internal and external cabinets where there is a need for ruggedness and low frequency data transmission ranges. The 3758 series cable is useful for longer transmission distances, due to its 26 AWG wire size. The 3896 series cable allows for higher signal density due to its 0.635mm centreline. The Round, Jacketed, Flat Cables Series 3758 and 3896 are RoHS-compliant.
The cables can be zipped for branching or discrete terminations. The primary cable has a continuous split or bond that repeats every 61mm, which improves flexibility. The continuous bonded wire option (SO) is also available. These are offered in varying conductor counts ranging from nine to 100, in a standard roll size of 275 feet, in standard and splice-free versions.
The Series 3758 3M Round, Jacketed, Flat Cables Series 3758 is a 1.27mm pitch 26 AWG stranded PVC insulated cable and is available in conductor counts up to 64. The Round, Jacketed, Flat Cables Series 3896 is a .635mm 30 AWG stranded PVC insulated cable and is available in conductor counts up to 100.
