Corian China is the proud sponsor of the Urban Picnic project, designed by Jason Carlow for the 2009 Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism. Until Feb. 2010, the DuPont Corian solid surface structure is on display in Hong Kong.
"DuPont as the material sponsor and our distributor Speedtop (HK) Ltd. see the endless design possibilities of Corian in this construction," said Michael Ho, regional general manager - Corian, DuPont China Ltd. "It can be thermoformed into virtually any shape, and it combines well with materials like bamboo. With its pre-consumer recycled content and low levels of volatile organic compounds, Corian is truly a green material ideal for outdoor use."
To support ecological sustainability, the Jason Carlow units combine durable DuPont Corian made with pre-consumer recycled content with green-certified, laminated bamboo plywood. The units can be flipped, rotated and connected in multiple configurations, depending on site-specific conditions and functional requirements.
These units are not specifically designed as chairs, lounges or tables, but as a series of platforms and surfaces that accommodate various uses. This non-programmed system was originally designed for use in the urban Hong Kong public spaces occupied by office workers and tourists during the week and by others on weekends. The configurations and utilization can change for various uses from day to night, weekday to weekend.
