Paper-Based Packaging Manufacturer Publishes 2009 Sustainable Development Report

Smurfit Kappa Group plc (‘SKG’ or the ‘Group’), one of the world’s largest integrated manufacturers of paper-based packaging products with operations in Europe and Latin America, is pleased to announce the publication of its annual Sustainable Development Report for the year 2009.

The report marks SKG’s continued progress to make sustainability a key element in all facets of its operations. In the report, a number of significant developments are outlined.

In order to improve transparency, this year external assurance was carried out on a number of key performance indicators included in the Report. SKG’s reporting now applies the B+ application level of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 guidelines.

SKG is now a participant in the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s leading voluntary corporate citizenship initiative promoting sustainable development and good corporate citizenship on the part of business.
