Sonoco to Showcase Plastic Packaging Platforms and Services

Sonoco has separated itself from its packaging peers through the years by delivering to customers complete and customized packaging solutions and turn-key management capabilities.

At Pack Expo International 2010, Sonoco will showcase its diverse line of consumer and industrial packaging products and services in its exhibit themed, “Sonoco. One Company. Infinite Packaging Solutions.”

“At Sonoco, we’re in the business of providing packaging solutions. When a customer comes to us with a specific packaging need, we are not restricted to a single material or technology and that makes us unique within the industry,” said Jack Sanders, executive vice president of Sonoco’s Global Consumer businesses. “Whether it’s a rigid paperboard packaging solution, a plastics packaging solution, a flexibles packaging solution or a specific packaging component, we’ll collaborate with our customers and offer a customized solution that successfully meets their need.

“Perhaps the best example of the diversity we offer in our packaging solutions is our paperboard coffee can that was introduced by a major brand in 2009. Six different components make up that can, and we manufacture them all – everything from the spiral-wound can, the inside liner, the top and bottom, the label and the plastic overcap. There’s not a single packaging company today, other than Sonoco, with the capabilities to produce all of those components.”

Sonoco’s exhibit also will place special emphasis on its plastics packaging platforms: blow molding, injection molding, thermoforming and extruded. The Company provides plastics packaging primarily in four markets: food, personal care, industrial and medical devices. And, with the recent acquisition of Associated Packaging Technologies (APT), Sonoco is now North America’s largest manufacturer and supplier of dual-ovenable, thermoformed plastic containers to the frozen food industry.

Sonoco representatives also will be on hand to discuss the Company’s packaging solutions strategy for managing projects from concept to completion by focusing on five key areas: collaboration and flexibility; design and development; speed to market; sustainability; and continuous improvement.

Pack Expo International 2010 is scheduled Sunday, Oct. 31 through Wednesday, Nov. 3 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Pack Expo is the world’s largest packaging trade show with attendance expected to be approximately 45,000 at this year’s event.

Following is a schedule of Sonoco’s featured topics:

Monday, Nov. 1 “Becoming a global leader in innovative plastics packaging”

Tuesday, Nov. 2 “Sonoco’s total solutions – a process that’s working”

Wednesday, Nov. 3 “Designing a sustainability program that works”
