Trex Company has declared the acquisition of Iron Deck, developer of steel deck framing equipments. The acquisition includes the entire assets of Iron Deck.
The steel deck framing systems from Iron Deck are developed from double-coated galvanized steel. In contrast to conventional wood substructures, galvanized steel provides excellent toughness, stability and extended life. The framing system is a better alternative to pressure-treated lumber that can withstand deterioration for only 15 years. Materials from Iron Deck are made of 25% reusable substances.
Ron Kaplan, Trex’ Chairman, President and CEO, stated that their product expansion will help the company to continuously obtain market share in the emerging segment and places its brand for strategic development in the $1.9 billion worth deck substructure segment. He added that composites play a major role in wood decking and railing and they can effectively compete against wooden deck substructures.
Kaplan added that the integration of Iron Deck’s sophisticated product technology with Trex wood-alternative decking and railing products offers high-value proposal for their clients and collaborators.
Transaction details were not revealed. Trex hopes that the acquisition will add to its first year profits. The company will manufacture the steel deck frames at its Winchester and Fernley facilities and will promote them under ‘Trex Elevations’ brand name.
