DuPont Unveils Kalrez and Vespel Aerospace System Parts at Paris Air Show 2011

DuPont Performance Polymers has introduced Kalrez and Vespel high-performance parts for aerospace systems at the Paris Air Show 2011.

The parts provide novel solutions for aerospace designers in situations where complex wear, friction and sealing problems occur.

DuPont’s Kalrez AeroSeal 7777 and 7797 perfluoroelastomer parts have a 325°C continuous service temperature. They have better temperature cycling performance, enhanced stress relaxation and low compression set. A major OEM has tested the parts in contact with high thermo-oxidative stability lubricants for more than 8,000 h.

The SCP Vespel parts, when compared to conventional polyimides, provide better wear resistance at higher temperatures and lower coefficient of friction. These properties have gained their approval for use in bushings, shrouds, seals, wear pads, bumpers and other wear applications in aircraft systems. The SCP Vespel parts are 75% to 80% lighter than stainless steel. They also weigh less than components made of titanium or aluminum. These parts are suitable replacements for metal. They help reduce operational costs and also improve fuel efficiency.
