Penford Products has expanded its renewable chemical products portfolio with the addition of PEN-COTE, a new series of natural binders developed with Penford’s proprietary technology. The binders are used as substitutes to synthetic latex utilized in paperboard and coated paper applications.
The PEN-COTE binder products are available in dry and liquid types such as PEN-COTE D and PEN-COTE L, respectively. The products can substitute nearly 60% of the petroleum-based latex solutions utilized in coating applications. Several publication papers and coated packaging producers have benefited from the use of PEN-COTE binder products.
The PEN-COTE binders from Penford Products are free from volatile organic compounds and considerably decrease customers operating costs. These solutions exhibit similar performance as the latex binders.
The binders are used in various applications, including publication papers, packaging board, brochures and catalogs. They provide the required properties such as binding of pigment particles, printability, strength and gloss. The PEN-COTE binders can address the rising demand for renewable content and help customers to reduce the impact of price instability of petrochemicals.
