Dupont will present its line of high performance polymers for use in medical devices, particularly the Dupont Delrin SC699 acetal resin at Pharmapack 2012 which is to be held in Paris.
Recently the medical devices company Ypsomed from Switzerland launched the UnoPen, which used the ultra low friction Delrin SC699 acetal resin for its key component. The resin from Dupont is used to mould the dose dial sleeve of the pen. The dose dial sleeve is used by patients to set the appropriate amount of insulin required to be injected and results in mechanical interaction with the piston to dispense the adequate dosage. Due to its low friction, patients are able to use the pen for administering injections by themselves without having to depend on healthcare professionals. The Delrin SC699 is also compatible with laser marking when it is used in masterbatch and also has excellent mechanical properties.
The resin has been specifically designed for parts that require high precision moulding in the healthcare sector. It has also been developed in compliance with EU and FDA food compliance standards and has been manufactured under the production standards of GMP. It has been tested against ISO standards and USP Class VI. Dupont Performance Polymers has around 40 manufacturing and research and development centres around the world to produce high quality polymers, elastomers, plastics and filaments.
