Alberta’s entrepreneurs and manufacturing companies will soon be presented with a new innovative facility. With financial support from the Government of Canada, this facility will allow the fabrication of new composite-based products.
The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, SAIT Polytechnic will be granted a federal investment of $3.5 M, by the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification. This will promote a centre for innovation to be established; thereby developing composite materials-based products.
The new facility will be established following the partnership of SAIT Polytechnic with Alta Injection Molding (AIM), an Alberta-based company. The new centre will enable the operation of a wide range of commercialization services ranging from product design and testing to manufacture and packaging. An advisory team will be made available to clients to help with mentoring, patents and interacting with investors. Training will be offered for students interested in the composites industry. Furthermore, there will be a considerable increase in the quantity of new products produced using composite materials that are being manufactured and marketed in Alberta.
Composites are reinforced plastics. The significant features of composite materials include lighter weight, design flexibility and durability, corrosion resistance and higher strength. These remarkably featured materials are being employed to manufacture an extensive range of high quality products such as corrosion resistant pipes, sporting goods, commercial aircraft components and automobile parts.
