KEMET, a manufacturer of aluminum, ceramic, electrolytic capacitors, film, paper, and tantalum, has declared that it has added its new series of T550 Polymer Hermetic Seal (PHS) to its tantalum through-hole capacitors portfolio. These new capacitors offer up to 40% more ripple current potential, 90% low ESR and enhanced capacitance retention at higher frequency and low temperature when compared to wet tantalum devices. High voltage management applications are taken to new levels by means of these PHS capacitors.
According to the CEO of KEMET, Per Loof, the company’s aim is to offer new technology to the industry and this aspect is in line with the expectations of the company’s customers. The T550 PHS capacitor series has the highest ripple current potential and the lowest ESR in the industry. The company has included more capabilities in these new capacitors that did not exist previously, Loof stated.
KEMET’s VP, CTO and Chief Scientist, Dr. Philip Lessner commented that PHS capacitor provides the highest total capacitance at high frequencies and low temperatures, exceeding the performance of wet tantalum, this making it the most efficient, high power solution. Solid internal construction of the capacitors enhances the ability of vibration and shock. The capacitor weighs 25% less when compared to the wet tantalum capacitor, according to Dr. Lessner.
The T550 PHS capacitors can be suitably used in high voltage power management applications like hold-up capacitors, filtering, buck boost converters, and other high ripple current applications. These capacitors find applications in aerospace and defense, alternative energy, lighting or industrial, medical and telecommunication markets.
