DUNMORE Adds Gemini Series Coating Production Lines at its US and German Plants

DUNMORE, a global supplier of engineered coated and laminated films, has announced the expansion of its production capacity in the U.S. and Europe for high-performance thin film products. The company has made significant investments in two new production lines at its facilities located in Freiburg, Germany and Brewster, New York.

The production lines mainly focus on DUNMORE's Gemini Series coating process, which has been developed to make the manufacturing process of complex thin films normal and easier. The process integrates the company’s expertise in advanced thin film production with two multi-function laminating and coating machines. The thin films from DUNMORE are used in several applications, including reflective insulation for construction; durable labels for electronics; backsheets for solar modules; high-tech insulation for spacecraft and satellites; and aircraft components.

The Gemini production line in Brewster is an 80-inch-wide line, which helps expand the production options offered by DUNMORE to its customers. The process can apply six different patterns of lamination and coating in less time compared to conventional equipment. Other features of the Gemini Series include auto splicing for high efficiency and productivity; a dual load tension control system that handles different substrates; a five-zone dryer system for drying coatings on the first pass and processing a broad range of calipers and materials; and dual coating capabilities for applying multiple coatings in one pass or coating both sides in a single pass. The manufacturing line in Brewster will begin its operation in July 2012, while the one in Freiburg, Germany will be fully operational by August, 2012.

The capabilities of the Gemini line in Freiburg include multiple high tech inline web cleaning systems for superior cleanliness; 100% inline optical quality inspection; inline precision coating thickness control and measurement; a 98-inch web width and; multi-functional coating station for applying deposits between 0.1 g/m2 and 50 g/m2 dry.
