Siemens Wins Lithuanian Order for Locomotives Worth 120 Million Euros

Siemens Transportation Systems is to supply Lithuanian Railway with 34 diesel-electric locomotives worth 120 million euros. The contract includes an option for the delivery of ten more locomotives.

The DE 20 type six-axle locomotives are based on the Eurorunner platform developed by Siemens. The diesel engines are designed for a maximum speed of 120 km/h. All the units ordered will be built at Siemens’ locomotive plant in Munich and delivered in the period between June 2007 and spring 2009.

Locomotives based on the Eurorunner platform are already in operation for Austrian Federal Railways, Kowloon-Canton Railways in Hong Kong, Siemens Dispolok GmbH, as well as for a number of private rail operators in Germany and Austria. Like all Eurorunner versions, the DE 20s will be especially environment friendly due to their low power consumption, noise and emission values.
