Novelis Inc. has been selected by General Motors to supply aluminum sheet for the hood of the 2008 Buick Enclave. Novelis is the world's leading supplier of high performance aluminum sheet for use in automotive applications.
The Enclave, Buick's first luxury crossover SUV, is receiving positive reviews in the automotive media for its upscale refinement and design. "Enclave is the best looking Buick to hit the streets in years," says AutoWeek magazine.
“We are proud to have been selected as the aluminum supplier on this trend-setting vehicle,” said Buddy Stemple, Vice President and General Manager of Specialty Products for Novelis North America. “This is one more example of how aluminum sheet can add beauty and value to today's vehicles.”
The Enclave is a cousin to GMC's popular Acadia crossover vehicle, which also features an aluminum hood made with Novelis sheet. Both vehicles are built on GM's all-new Lambda unibody architecture.
Lightweight and strong, aluminum is being used increasingly to improve vehicle performance, increase fuel economy and reduce tailpipe emissions in today's vehicles.
“As the nation debates alternatives for improved fuel economy and energy independence,” says Stemple, “aluminum can play a role in helping to achieve those goals.”
Aluminum sheet for the Enclave and the Acadia is supplied from Novelis manufacturing plants in Oswego, NY, and Kingston, Ont.
