This webinar delves into the characterization of batteries and energy storage materials, providing insight into how to understand and develop battery and energy storage advanced materials.
About the webinar
The performance of advanced new materials such as batteries depends a lot on their structure. Imaging techniques like electron microscopy and CT are effective methods to capture information about the structure of different battery components at multiple scales.
Imaging analysis software can then transform the image into data, from which researchers can quantitatively interpret the structure–performance correlation.
Thermo Scientific™ Avizo™ Software can be used at the macro level to examine the quality of the manufacturing process by enabling users to look into packaging, check solder points, and detect leakage or porosity and delamination.
Users also have the ability to examine the aging process and investigate foil, cathode, and anode morphological changes or core leakage.
Avizo Software also allows users to estimate the tortuosity and permeability of the porosity structure of electrode and separator at the microscopic level; they can then use effective transport parameters in the electrochemical performance simulation.
The cell’s performance can also be characterized by quantifying the triple phase boundary (TPB), phase distribution, and connectivity.
Key Learning Objectives
- Design and encapsulate battery analysis workflows into easy-to-use recipes for non-experts in image processing
- Use one package to visualize and analyze battery samples, from 2D and 3D acquisition techniques, in a consistent manner
- Identify and measure complex features in electrode materials and in entire cells with high accuracy
Davy Penhard has more than 15 years of experience developing analytical software. He spent many years traveling the world to meet with clients as a software sales manager and is now in charge of Avizo Software’s strategic development.
To better understand the main challenges in materials analysis and how Avizo Software can assist users in designing and producing better batteries and energy storage materials, Davy regularly meets with peers from other organizations to discuss product improvements.
