New Center for Dielectrics and Piezoelectrics to be Co-Located at Penn State and NCSU

On March 1, the National Science Foundation announced the creation of a new Center for Dielectrics and Piezoelectrics (CDP) co-located at Penn State and North Carolina State University. The new center builds on and expands the research capabilities of the long-running Center for Dielectrics Studies (CDS) based at Penn State.

WPI MPI Among Key Contributors for ‘American Lightweight and Modern Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute’

The Metal Processing Institute (MPI) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is one of four core academic facilities for the American Lightweight and Modern Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute (LM3I), a new $148 million initiative to be announced by the White House todey that is aimed at helping to revitalize the nation's manufacturing capabilities and competitiveness.

Axalta Presents Research on Better Formulations for Waterbased Coatings

Axalta Coating Systems research associate Dr. Ayumu Yokoyama presented research that better formulates waterbased coatings. Speaking at the Waterborne Symposium at the University of Southern Mississippi, Dr. Yokoyama explained the scientific breakthrough that reduces the gassing that can result when traditional solvent based coatings are reformulated to use water.

Alcoa Among 60 Founding Members of ‘National Lightweight and Modern Metals Innovation Institute’

Alcoa, a global leader in lightweight metals engineering and manufacturing, is a founding member of the country’s first manufacturing institute focused solely on light metals: the National Lightweight and Modern Metals Innovation Institute in Detroit, Michigan. The institute was formally unveiled by President Obama during an event in Washington today.

Suntech CTO Honored with A F Harvey Engineering Prize

Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (the "Company" or "Suntech") today welcomed the January 20th announcement that Suntech's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Professor Stuart Wenham, was awarded the prestigious Institution of Engineering and Technology's (IET) A F Harvey Engineering Research Prize of 300,000 pounds for Professor Wenham and his team's discovery of a new technique which can improve the efficiency of lower-grade silicon used in the production of solar panels.
