Lithium ion phosphate batteries are widely used to power the batteries in electric cars, but, unlike the amount of gas in a fuel tank, their state of charge can't be measured directly by a physical quantity.

The world's first model car comprising wood-based carbon fiber roof and battery was produced by a group of Swedish researchers. Many decades ago, station wagons have wooden paneling; however, this was merely for aesthetics. The vision behind using wood in this current research is to decrease vehicle weight using renewable materials.

Winter Woes Could be Relieved by Self-Heating Lithium-Ion Battery

A lithium-ion battery capable of self heating even if the temperature is less than 32°F can prove to be comforting as it could relieve winter "range anxiety" for owners of electric vehicles, according to a research team from Penn State and EC Power, State College. This self-heating battery also has a wide range of applications.

BMW 7 Series Features Hexcel’s Innovative CFRP Technology

Hexcel is pleased to have its innovative CFRP technology introduced in the BMW 7 Series where it is used to save weight and reinforce the metal shell of the B-pillar. Hexcel supplies BMW with preforms made of unidirectional carbon prepreg set in various orientations and combined with adhesive. The prepreg is made from Hexcel’s HexPly® M77 resin system that cures in 1.5 minutes at 160°C.

BASF's Historic BMW Microcar Purchased for €26,099 in eBay Auction

BASF’s concept car MySetta was handed over today to its new owner. The historic BMW microcar was purchased for €26,099 in an eBay auction. BASF is rounding up this figure to €30,000 and donating the entire sum to the child rights organization Save the Children, which has partnered with BASF on various projects. The project partnership was agreed upon at the Creator Space tour stop in Mumbai. The Creator Space tour is a cornerstone of BASF’s anniversary celebrations.
