Researchers Insert Lightweight, Thin Membranes in Aircraft Honeycomb Structures for Noise Reduction

Passengers have to deal with noise while flying in an airplane or helicopter. Researchers from North Carolina State University and MIT have partnered together to create a membrane which can be added into the aircraft structure to significantly decrease low-frequency noise that enters the cabin.

Ogle’s true-to-life model enabled B/E Aerospace, a leading global manufacturer of aircraft passenger cabin interior products, to get agreement from a client on the aesthetics of a product before the development progressed into the detailed design phase and testing.

ESA Awards IComp €240k for Research on Demisable Bio-Composite Space Materials

The Irish Centre for Composites Research (IComp) at the University of Limerick has been awarded €240,000 by the European Space Agency (ESA) for a new space materials research project, entitled “Demisable Bio-Composite Materials”. The 18 month project which commenced last month is led by Dr Walter Stanley, Lecturer in Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Biomedical Engineering at UL.
